Music at First Presbyterian

OrganFacade

Music is an integral part of the worship life of First Presbyterian Church. It raises our spirits to God in worship, assists us in prayer, and moves us to a realm beyond the spoken word. We celebrate not only our rich musical heritage, but look to the future with excitement as we continue to grow our ministry of music. We offer several areas of involvement for all ages. You are warmly encouraged and welcome to be a part of our dynamic Music Ministry. If you have questions or are interested in joining our Music Ministry, please contact Director of Music & Organist Colin Knapp.

The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is the principal choir of the church, and provides music at the 10:00 a.m. service each Sunday, as well as special services and holidays throughout the year. Most recently, the Choir has performed major choral works with orchestra such as Vivaldi's Gloria, Faure's Requiem, and Saint-Saën's Christmas Oratorio. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. and after worship at 11:15 a.m.

Our Organ

First Presbyterian Church houses a magnificent pipe organ. Our church organ by the Martin Ott Pipe Organ Company, opus 108, sounded its first note in public on Sunday, November 23, 2008. The instrument uses pipes from the original 1897 Jardine & Sons Organ with expanded pipework and new works.

The dedicatory concert was Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 by Dr. John Weaver, Prof. of Organ Emeritus, Julliard & Curtis Institute, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Weaver was the Director of Music and Organist at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York City and chair of the PC(USA) hymnal committee in 1984.
